Transporting full-size excavators: due to their size, excavators require a heavy-duty truck and trailer, which means a driver with a CDL
Transportation
Delivery and pick-up are sometimes available from the Rental Company on equipment for an additional charge.
Responsibility for arrangement and payment for transportation of the excavator will often fall on the buyer. Some excavator sites have established relationships with haulers, and will facilitate getting shipping quotes for you.
TRANSPORTING EXCAVATORS
Follow the manufacturer's manual for specific loading and unloading procedures.
Be sure all required tie downs, safety chains, etc., are properly secured.
If driving the Excavator on public roads make certain that all warning signs, lights, and flags are in place and visible. The Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) emblem must be visible to vehicles approaching from the rear.
Geographic Area:
Excavator Rental Company locations vary in their geographic coverage; some are local, while others are nationwide. In most cases it is better to find an excavator closer to your location so that you don't have to pay as much in transportation costs.
Maintenance:
According to the terms of most rental contracts, while the equipment is in your possession, you're responsible for its proper use and security. Most rental contracts state that the equipment must be returned in the same condition you rented it, subject to ordinary wear and tear.
Generally, the rental center is responsible for maintenance and breakdowns. And the rental contract does not involve transfer of title to you.
Contract Terms:
The contract begins when you leave the store with the equipment and ends when you return it.
You decide how long you will keep it, and there's no penalty for returning it sooner than you thought you would.
Liability:
Your business insurance may or may not cover rented equipment. If it doesn't, you can inexpensively extend your coverage to include it.
