33-ton excavator stolen
GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany, April 18 (UPI) -- Police in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, said Friday a 33-ton excavator has been stolen from a construction site.
Investigators said an employee of Heitkamp construction company discovered the nearly $400,000 piece of equipment was missing when he arrived for work at 6:30 a.m. Friday, The Local reported Friday.
Police spokesman Guido Hesse said the missing excavator, a recently purchased yellow Caterpillar Type 330 DLN, could not have been stolen without the use of a flatbed truck.
"There are some that are specially designed for the extremely large excavators," Hesse said.
He said police do not currently have any suspects.
